Important Notice: Windows Vista and Office 2007

On Jan. 30, 2007, Microsoft released their newest operating systems, Windows Vista, and productivity suite, Office 2007. Both offer new features and a different user interface than Windows XP or Office 2003. Please note that Antioch I.T.S. has not evaluated the new Windows Vista operating system or Office 2007, nor how either of these products work with any of our existing systems.

Most previous Microsoft upgrades have not been this significant, and an upgrade to either product will likely require considerable effort by users to relearn Windows and Office. If you choose to buy a new Windows PC for personal use, I.T.S. strongly suggests that you purchase one with Windows XP that is "Vista Ready."

I.T.S. recommends that those who currently use Windows XP and Office 2007 on personal computers continue to do so. It is our understanding from other institutions that Windows Vista does not support WebCT, and may not support other systems we currently use. If you upgrade your personal PC to Vista, you may not be able to access WebCT and other systems. Faculty who use WebCT need to make sure their students also know that a Vista operating system on a student's personal machine may mean the student can not get access to WebCT.
